Since we enjoy sushi but are seldom able to eat it because of my wife's gluten sensitivity, we were excited to find that Kona Grill offers a gluten free menu and enthusiastically caters to those with special dietary needs. Kona Grill is located in the midst of West Palm Beach's City Place, a lovely upscale outdoor shopping, dining and entertainment area.

We visited for lunch, and found the atmosphere to be pleasant, upscale and simple with an open feel. One wall is made of a giant fish tank with colorful tropical fish. There are tables with chairs as well as booth seats. My wife drives an ECV (mobility scooter), and was cheerfully invited to bring the scooter to the table, or to park it right nearby. All of the tables were easily accessible.

We were given a gluten free menu by our friendly waiter who seemed sincerely happy to explain all the options. He then left to let us think our choices over, and a few minutes later the manager came out and chatted with us further about the menu.

My wife chose a salmon skin sushi roll and a Kona salad which was like a Cobb salad. I chose the satay appetizer and a fire grilled burger and fries. My wife really enjoyed the sushi roll, which was served with gluten free tamari sauce. For her this was a major treat! My satay chicken was tender and tasty, and came with a generous portion of spicy coleslaw.

The salad was fresh and nicely made and there were several gluten free salad dressing options. My burger was delicious, with that flame grilled flavor that makes a burger great. The manager explained that the French fries were cooked in a dedicated fryer, so my wife happily grabbed a few, which were crunchy and delicious. We didn't have room for dessert, but next time we'll be sure to save room, as the options looked appealing.

Overall we were very impressed with the willingness of the staff to be sure we were happy and well taken care of. The food was delicious with plenty of options, and worth coming back for.
