Mission Statement:
We're involved with this
to help make dreams come true for people with special needs,
disabilities, health and emotional conditions, and their friends and
families. We want to make it easy for others to plan a safe,
comfortable and enjoyable trip. Disney World has been a haven and a
place of relaxation and joy for us, and we want to help others to have
that as well.
Our
Motivation:
For us
it's been
rough to travel because of health issues, and we know we're not alone in
this. It can be stressful and
even scary. Yet just like anyone else, we believe that people with health conditions
need to be able to relax and get away. In fact, sometimes it's
more important when you're dealing with illness to be able to leave the
daily grind and have some rest and fun.
Disney has become the one place
that we could vacation with ease and confidence, but it took years to figure
everything out. There were some informational resources out
there, but none as complete or as detailed as we needed. It took
years of trial and error to get as comfortable with Disney as we are
today. In 2006 we realized that we had so much knowledge and
experience that could make a difference to others. We decided to write
the book Walt Disney World with Disabilities. We wanted to help people avoid pitfalls, to make use of all Disney
has to offer and to feel safe and comfortable planning and enjoying
their vacations.
We then
created the website to let people know about the guide book and to share
things that were not really right for the book such as restaurant menus.
Since that time we decided to expand the site with support material
including articles, guest writers, segments of the next edition of our
guide book, photos, travel products that could help support guests with
special needs, and a wide variety of other support materials.
Another
reason we began these projects is that most of what you read out there
is written by people who do not have the health conditions they write
about. Truth be told, only those who suffer from a particular problem
will be sensitive to triggers, or notice certain issues. We know
first-hand that going on the wrong ride or attraction can ruin a trip.
We felt it was important to share what we knew from our own experiences.
We also did extensive research for the book to get the opinions and
experiences of people who have conditions that we don't, so that we can
help folks with a wide variety of situations.
We're planning to grow this site and to
add a great deal more information to the guide book. We hope we can help
make your dreams come true!
