Although we love the Disney World Resorts, there are many reasons to consider staying in a non-Disney property. Of course there’s the potential for considerable savings, but when you’re dealing with health and emotional issues there are many other advantages.
Private vacation home and condo properties offer many perks. During very crowded periods you can have the peace and quiet of a private vacation home to unwind in. Those who have special dietary needs will enjoy a full, working kitchen with everything needed to cook your own meals. This also allows for some big savings on your food budget, as well as less time spent in lines or waiting to be served.
Of course, vacation homes and condos have significantly more space than hotel rooms, and you have the privacy of multiple bedrooms at reasonable rates. Affordable Travel of Orlando is a company that has a wide assortment of these properties. They’ve in business since 1991, and they are in good standing with the Better Business Bureau.
Affordable Travel of Orlando also has fully accessible private vacation homes. Last we heard, they have 6 of these properties. They are all single story homes with ramps, roll in showers, wood floors, lower cabinets which are easier to reach, and furniture that’s strategically placed to allow more mobility and accessibility. We'll be taking photos of some of these homes within the next week or so for you to see, so check back soon.
They also have access to handicapped rooms in many of the major hotels in the Orlando area, which they offer at a discount. It’s our understanding that most of the on-line discount companies like priceline.com don’t have access to handicapped rooms, so this is a definite plus.
We spoke to Trey Duling, vice president of Affordable Travel of Orlando to check out this company. He said “The key to helping guest plan their Disney World vacation is to listen to them and understand exactly what they are looking for. No family is alike…We train our representatives to really listen to the customer before suggesting any vacation package.” He seemed sincerely interested in creating appropriate and affordable packages for people with health issues, and we like that!
You can visit Affordable Travel through their website here, or call them at 1-866-908-1812. For our readers only, we suggest you call the marketing manager directly. He will be able to pass you to one of their more experienced, supervisor level booking agents who are more familiar with the accessible homes and hotels. Tell him that you got his information on www.Diz-Abled.com and he'll help you. Here's his contact information:
